Safe Cycling with Cycle Tours Ireland

Cycle tours Ireland encourage all our customers to make safety their first priority when participating on one of our tours. The following are a few important guidelines to follow.

1. Choosing the correct Bicycle and Size  -  It's essential that the correct bike and size is right. Can you cycle 40kms without rest?  If not maybe an Electric bike may suit. A large percentage of accidents are caused by fatigue so please be aware of your limits.   If you are interested in short comfortable leisure tours, we would recommend a hybrid bike . This will also be more comfortable. For longer cycles and for those who have higher fitness levels, A racing bike will suffice.

We also advise correct bike size. Please see recommended guides.

Height  - 168-175 cm       -   Frame Size  54-55 cm

Height  - 175-183 cm           Frame Size - 56-57-58 cm

Height - 183-191 cm             Frame size   58-59-60 cm.

The next point is to ensure that tyres are nice and firm, and the bell, lights and brakes all working properly? Please check all.

2. Rules of the Road: Cyclists need to obey the same rules of the road as every other road user. Stopping at red lights, understanding and heeding road signs and markings is for the good of everyone’s safety, including theirs.  Cyclists need to be aware and mindful of other road users. As well as having to obey the same rules, they also have the same rights.  Please give lots of room when passing parked cars and always be aware of cars coming from the rear. Cycling in heavy traffic and maintaining a safe distance from larger vehicles is essential for all round safety.

3.. Choose correct Head gear and clothing. -  A good Helmet is essential to protect yourself in case of falls. Cycle Tours Ireland will not let anyone participate without one. We can supply one or please bring your own.  Secondly have a look at the weather forecast before you leave, and dress appropriately - we always recommend bringing a light raincoat in your pocket or bag. Cycling glasses also give great eye protection in heavy rain.
